My Authentic Self

For so many of my adult years, I wanted to know myself.

Growing up, I’d heard there was such thing as a person knowing themselves and, truthfully, I was envious of all those who did.

When I thought of what it meant for a woman to know herself, in my mind I saw strength. I saw opinion. I saw a woman in charge, a statue of clarity in a crumbling world.

I didn’t think I was any of those things.

I still don’t. If I know anything of myself, it’s that I’m just a big kid that loves music and movies and coffee. And laughter, of course, because what would this world be without a good cackle.

Well.

I have the best news to share.

I am no longer seeking to know myself.

I am no longer seeking to be the woman that I always thought I should be by now.

All I truly crave in this big old universe of ours is to be free to be my authentic self.

To live my truth.

To fly above the path I choose, rather than simply walk it (because flying is way more fun, don’t you think?)

I don’t suppose I will ever truly know myself because, in this life, I will be constantly moving and changing to suit all my new moments.

All my new places.

All my new people.

So.

If I can be satisfied with the simple act of loving myself for who I am in any given moment, then that sounds pretty bloody great to me.

Bring on the next time I doubt myself.

Bring on the next time I cry into my tacos about completely ridiculous things.

Because gosh I love that girl.

And I love that she really doesn’t care if she knows herself, or not. xx

I was four, here. I haven’t changed much. 😂❤️

That’s right, Spiritual journey. 💕 If this little spiritual awakening of mine has taught me anything it’s that loving myself is at the core of all my love for others. If I get that right, it seems love just overflows to all the right parts of my life. That feels pretty awesome. xx

If there was one gift I could give everyone in the world, it would be the ability to simply love who they are at the moment and every following moment. I think we try to strive too much, want too much, and believe we must know who we are by a certain age. But the world is constantly changing, so we are constantly changing. If we could just love and embrace who we are at any given moment, we would probably be much happier. And I think knowing ourselves would make life rather boring. We wouldn’t be trying out new things and ways all the time if we knew ourselves. Be wonderful, Brooke! I absolutely love who you are!

Aww, Kat. ☺️We are such soul sisters, aren’t we?! What a gift your friendship has been to me on this blogging journey: it’s so nice to know there are others out there who are on the same page as me. Life is such a gift, we spend far too much time forgetting to just embrace the good and the bad. I’m the first to admit…I fail at life so terribly sometimes 😂 But I think the key is just to keep being who I am. As long as I do that, I don’t suppose there really can be any such thing as ‘failing’ at life. xx ❤️

Yes, absolutely! You’re such a beautiful soul and I feel blessed whenever you post because the beauty just sweeps over me and makes me smile. It’s so nice to find someone else who still believes in the magic of life amid so many cynics. And if we’re always true to ourselves, how can we possibly fail?

This is great! Thanks for sharing! It’s a great reminder. It’s also brave of you to admit like most of us that you don’t know yourself fully and want to really understand and love yourself for who you are. We are all changing and that is good. Growing in so many different ways.

Aww, thanks Jason. 🙂 You know, it’s funny. I’ve noticed the more I live with my heart and stay away from the unnecessary noises of the world, the more at peace I am with just ‘being’, flaws and all. It’s very liberating and all sorts of wonderful. 🙂 xx

Oh, thank you! I’m so glad you enjoyed it! It really is a fascinating process, isn’t it, especially the moment the light bulb goes off and we realise our ‘actual’ authentic self has nothing to do with the world according to everyone else. ☺️
