Darling Day 3. Beautiful.

Darling is a beautiful word.

It sounds like a hummingbird bird, hovering sweetly in her field.

It feels like a little bell that rings away the muck of a muddy day.

There are words that I know.

And there are words that I love.

Darling is a word that I love.

Because what lives within its delicate walls is a treasure greater than the word itself.

An essence.

A code.

A little piece of wonderland.

Beautiful and true.

The Darling Blog Of May Returns

I may be about to make the biggest mistake of my life.

Okay, that’s a little dramatic, let me rephrase.

I may be about to make the biggest mistake of 2020.

So!

What’s the big mistake, you ask?

The thing that’s got me a little rattled, a little nervous, a little unsure?

It’s the first of May, tomorrow.

And THIS is happening!

Again!

I’m both frightened and thrilled, all rolled into a woman.

Thrilled because the last Darling blog of May brought so much beauty and fun to my life.

Frightened because the last Darling blog of May could have gone SO badly wrong, given there are only SO many ‘darling things’ a girl can think of on any given month of her life.

But I am ready.

And so it is we begin.

The only rules are: the official ‘darling’ post for the day must reference ‘darling’ in some way. I might play with either the word or the concept…there are no limits, except for that teeny little word: Darling.

And yes. I’m leaving the rules relatively open to allow me the opportunity to, umm, (cough) cheat on days the creative tank is running on empty. (Lol. I am NOT sorry, guys! This is for my own sanity. Ha ha ha.)

I will also continue with my regular content when the tank is full enough to allow more than one post a day— you’ll know the difference by both the title and the ‘Darling blog of May’ banner at the bottom of each post.

So, yes. That’s what’s happening this month on The Little Blog Of Everything.

I so hope everyone can make it along for the ride! Yay!

xx Brooke

Darling Day 31. The Land of Darling

Come with me to the land of darling.

A place where night-lights watch over sleeping babes.

A place where laughter skips ’round the edge of the world, looking for a new soul to leap into when the time is right.

The land of darling.

You just never know what magic we’ll find there.

You’d have been there before, I’m sure.

The last time you laughed.

The last time you cried.

The last time you tripped over a boot in the hall…

The very boot you couldn’t find last week.

Darling, hey?

Darling can be so many different things.

Which is why I’m sad to see this day come.

A sweet kiss goodbye to the darling that’s flooded 31 of my days.

It’s been hard. I’m not going to lie.

But I look at all the darling that’s come from it and…

Well.

There aren’t really any words to describe that kind of wonderful.

And so, we come to the final curtain.

The bit where we all hug and giggle, and I say:

It’s been super nice to meet you. Super nice to share the darling of my days.

I wish you a million more darling days of your own.

Because darling happens all the time to those who open their hearts wide enough.

And now you know what darling looks like, how it feels…

I dare you to catch it and fly.

You know you want to.

Lots of love,

xx Brooke

Darling Day 28. Me Time

Darling is the wife, the mum, the daughter, the friend who says:

Tonight is my gift to me.

Tonight it will be only me.

In a cosy room.

With candles.

Tea.

Chocolate.

And music. (You know I’d never forget the music.)

Yes.

Darling is tonight.

The night I’ve stolen from the world.

Taken.

All for myself, for no particular reason.

You’re welcome me.

You are very, very welcome.

Darling Day 23. Sweet Dreams

Early morning is the time for darling dreams, wouldn’t you agree?

When the sun creeps into the day…

But the only ones who know it’s there are the flowers.

And the soul-destroying roosters.

(Uhem. I mean, the darling roosters. Of course.)

The last few mornings have gifted me many a darling scenario.

A date with Leonardo on the set of his latest movie (whatever that might be).

A cheeky, free gym session (they really should have been paying ME.)

And a cute and fluffy Maltese-Shih tzu, who was very nearly my new housemate.

Until he so, so, absolutely wasn’t.

What will tomorrow morning bring, I wonder.

I almost can’t handle the suspense.

Perhaps I could choose?

If miracles have touched this glowing universe of ours before…

Who’s to say I won’t play the lucky hand next time ’round?

What If I wished for it?

A dream to make the whites of my eyes shine until the sun falls.

A dream to beat all dreams.

A dream to whisper me the ancient secrets of the universe.

I could do that, right? Wish a dream to life?

Wish a dream come true?

adorable animal beautiful blur

You know what? I’m going to try. I’m going to close my eyes and take a breath.

Fill myself with all the light of the world and…

Dream.

Of all the lovely things, of all the darling things.

So, without further ado—goodnight, my friends.

May the new day catch a dream for you, too.

And tomorrow…let us compare notes!

Lots of love,

xx Brooke

Darling Day 14. Where Did All The Darling Go?

Darling day 14.

A day to sit in front of the computer and stare.

And stare.

And stare some more and wonder: is this where it all comes crashing down?

Is this the day the tank that once was full drizzles to a dripping halt?

The day this brain of mine says:

pexels-photo-325258.jpeg

Guys.

I feel we’ve reached a point in our relationship where we can be honest about things.

Honest about the good.

Honest about the bad.

And honest about the very, very bad.

This.

This is very, very bad.

pexels-photo-422212.jpeg

And it’s not to say that I don’t have any plans for this darling blog of mine.

Oh no. They’re there, alright.

Tucked up my sleeve, waiting for the perfect day to reveal themselves to me.

The thing is— This. Is not that day.

Nope. Sorry.

Today, the brain says: NO.

That’s got to be a little darling in itself, right?

Umm. Right?

Darling Day 4. The Darling Moon

What if

The darling moon

Fell in love

With the Sun?

Would two lights shine from the black?

Or

Would day-time drift

the lovers into the open

blue

Where they would shine

A single ray

on a hill by the sea.

Never too bright, never

a smudge of char on the

cracked stone.

And

What if

The darling Sun

Fell in love

With

The

Moon?

One day to Go!

There’s one day to go

’til this blog post a day-ness.

This darling of May; yes!

A darling a day; bless.

pexels-photo-208165.jpeg

Don’t ask me to tell

’cause it’s all a surprise; oh!

What will darling be? No!

Stop trying to guess, yo!

pexels-photo-221164.jpeg

It could be a post

’bout a cake or a pie; why?

I don’t really know; sigh.

Just trust me! (Please, don’t cry.)

pexels-photo-208144.jpeg

A darling of whim

’twill most probably be; see?

For how many days; three?

No! Thirty-one; yippee!

city-night-explosion-firework.jpg

See you tomorrow for darling day one!

I can’t wait. xx Brooke
